CMH appoints new behavioral health leadership

Citizens Memorial Hospital promoted three employees to new leadership roles in December 2022 as CMH continues to expand behavioral health services.

Rachael Swopes, Ph.D., was promoted to clinical director of Behavioral Health Therapy Services, serving all behavioral health therapy services for CMH. Dr. Swopes is a licensed clinical psychologist and has worked at CMH for eight years. She currently sees patients in the CMH Pediatric Clinic. Dr. Swopes has served in clinical practice performing various roles, including individual and family therapy, parent training and psychological evaluations. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Swopes has served as the clinical director for school-based therapy services and has overseen the ED Behavioral Assessment Team for the past two years.

Dr. Swopes earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She completed a child clinical psychology internship at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina, and a psychology residency at Behavioral Healthcare of Rural Missouri Inc., Stockton.

Angela Long, MSN, RN, was promoted to director of behavioral health operations. Long oversees behavioral health in the clinic setting and Parkview Geriatric Wellness. She works directly with clinic managers, inpatient nursing and mental health providers throughout the organization to help support, build and bridge gaps in the behavioral health field.

Long has worked for CMH for 15 years, starting her career in pre-hospital services as an EMT and has worked in Parkview Geriatric Wellness throughout her nursing career. She has served as a charge nurse, intake coordinator, preceptor and director for more than 13 years. Long earned her Associate of Science in Nursing from Bolivar Technical College. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing – Executive Leadership at Purdue University.

Suret Thompson, RN, was promoted to director of nursing for Parkview Geriatric Wellness Department. Thompson has worked at CMH for 10 years, starting her career in the Laboratory Department as a phlebotomist. She has worked in PVGW throughout her nursing career and has served as a charge nurse and preceptor for more than four years. She earned her Licensed Practical Nursing license in 2017, an Associate of Science in Nursing degree in 2018 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 2020.
