CMH announces new research department, expanding clinical research studies
Citizens Memorial Hospital announces the creation of the new CMH Research Department, which will expand clinical research studies at CMH.
CMH Neurology and Headache Center in Bolivar has conducted clinical research studies for seven years in the areas of Alzheimer’s disease and migraine headaches under the direction of Curtis P. Schreiber, M.D.
Dr. Schreiber is a board-certified neurologist and headache medicine specialist with over 20 years of experience in 221 research studies. CMH Neurology and Headache Center and Missouri Memory Center has participated in 19 research studies since 2016.
“We are participating in national clinical trials that are advancing science and leading to new therapies for patients,” Dr. Schreiber said. “By creating the CMH Research Department, we are building on our successes of the past seven years, allowing us to elevate our research efforts even further by soon expanding into additional therapeutic areas.”
Dr. Schreiber added, “We’ll be able to work collaboratively with other CMH physicians and clinics and offer more opportunities for patients to participate in trials that could lead to new treatments. It’s very exciting!
Clinical research trials provide patients with opportunities to participate in the process of advancing options for medical treatments. Currently, the CMH Research Department is conducting seven Alzheimer’s studies and one migraine study. They will be starting three additional studies including two for Alzheimer’s and one for migraine. Plans are to begin offering research studies beyond Alzheimer’s and migraine research.
According to Kasie Atchison, clinical research manager, clinical trials provide access to cutting-edge diagnostic tools, give the patients with in-depth clinical monitoring and provide personalized care throughout the study.
“Clinical trials look at new ways to prevent, detect or treat diseases,” Atchison said. “Ultimately, the goal of clinical trials is to determine if a new treatment is safe and effective.
Patients who choose to participate in a clinical trial can be part of the process to advance options for treatment or have access to investigational study drugs, may receive a new treatment for a disease before it is available to the public, receive in-depth clinical monitoring throughout the study, and have access to cutting-edge diagnostic tools.
