CMH announces DAISY Nurse Leader Award

Citizens Memorial Hospital announces plans to expand employee recognition with the DAISY Nurse Leadership Award.

As the healthcare landscape becomes more complex, with increasing demands on nurse leaders, CMH believes that those who create an environment of compassion and recognition for others strongly deserve to be recognized themselves.

The DAISY Nurse Leadership Award is a part of a national recognition program for extraordinary nurses, the DAISY Award.

CMH implemented the DAISY Award in January 2019 and is expanding the recognition program with the DAISY Nurse Leadership Award.

The DAISY Nurse Leader Award committee will select three nurse leaders over the course of 2023 from submitted nominations that exemplifies the following characteristics:

  • Creating an environment where attributes of trust, compassion, mutual respect, continued professional development and ethical behavior are modeled and supported
  • Being accessible, available, and responsive to the needs of their team
  • Problem-solving and encouraging critical thinking
  • Advocating for their teams
  • Ensuring that the needs of the teams are communicated to organization leadership and organizational priorities and directions are communicated to their teams
  • Being compassionate leaders

If you have a nurse leader you would like to nominate, describe the impact they have on staff and patient care they manage using the criteria.

Nominations for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award can be completed online at http://bit.ly/2vwPyGw, or by completing a nomination form located at the hospital, department, clinic or facility and either mailing it to the address listed on the form or dropping it into one of the DAISY Award submission boxes at CMH.

About the DAISY Award

DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP), an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Barnes, so they created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.

CMH implemented the DAISY Awards in January 2019 to recognize their own extraordinary nurses. Each month a CMH or Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation nurse is presented with this recognition.
