John F. Best M.D. featured speaker at regional cardiovascular meeting

John F. Best, M.D., FACP, FACC, FSCAI board certified physician in practice with the Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) Heart Institute Clinic, Bolivar, will be a featured speaker at the Alliance of Cardiovascular Professionals regional meeting Sept. 19 at Saint Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. Dr. Best will present “Radial Access in STEMI Patients” at the conference.

Dr. Best attended medical school at the University of Missouri-School of Medicine, Columbia. He completed his residency and a cardiology fellowship at the University of Kansas-School of Medicine. Dr. Best is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and specializes in invasive/interventional cardiology, diagnostic angiography, coronary angioplasty and stenting, pacemaker implantation, echo cardiography, inferior vena cava filter placement, pericardiocentesis, electrical cardioversion, stress testing and more.

CMH started a STEMI Center in February 2014, with 24/7 cardiology availability. STEMI – which stands for ST– segment elevation myocardial infarction – is a heart attack in which a blocked coronary artery prevents blood from getting to the heart muscle. A STEMI heart attack typically requires angioplasty for treatment, a procedure calling for insertion of a balloon in a blocked coronary artery followed by placement of a stent to keep the artery open and restore blood flow to the heart muscle.

With the STEMI designation, patients receive care faster – a key factor in survival. CMH is the only STEMI Center between Springfield and Kansas City.  The hospital will be applying for designation as a Level 2 STEMI Center when the state certification begins.

The CMH Heart Institute Clinic is located at 1500 N. Oakland, Bolivar. To make an appointment with Dr. Best, call 417-328-6040 or the CMH Information Center at 888-328-6010.
