CMH therapists receive certification in innovative Parkinson Disease treatment
CMH Rehabilitation Services help patients manage effects of Parkinson Disease though evidenced-based treatment techniques
Two therapists with Citizens Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Services have received certification through Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) Global, Inc. LSVT is an innovative and clinically-proven method for improving speech and physical therapy in individuals with Parkinson Disease (PD) and other neurological disorders.
Levi Jett, DPT, is certified in LSVT BIG – an exercise therapy protocol for individuals with PD. Improvements include: faster walking and bigger steps; improved balance; and increased trunk rotation.
Receiving LSVT LOUD certification is speech therapist, Mary Ethridge, SLP. LSVT LOUD training includes voice/speech techniques for adults and children with motor speech disorders, with a focus in PD. Benefits are improved vocal loudness and improved speech intelligibility.
A referral for LSTV will include: a baseline assessment of speech and physical status; therapy to increase loudness without damaging vocal cords; retraining for more normal “BIG” body movements; and evaluation if further rehabilitation services are needed.
Ask your physician if LSVT therapy is an option for you or your loved one. For more information contact CMH Rehabilitation Services at 417-326-3585 or 800-955-3493.
