CMH honors volunteer with Lillian Hutcheson Award
Ruby Hagerman is awarded for service and dedication to Auxiliary
As a charter member of the Ash Grove Healthcare Facility Auxiliary for 44 years, Ruby Hagerman’s devotion to the residents of the facility was highlighted at the 2013 annual Citizens Memorial Hospital and Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation (CMH) Auxiliary/Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on April 25.
Hagerman was presented the Lillian Hutcheson Award, which is named in honor of Lillian Hutcheson who founded and led the Auxiliary program even before CMH opened in 1982 until her retirement in 2001. At 95 years of age, Hagerman is currently a resident of the facility and continues to contribute to the functions of the Auxiliary by attending meetings and fundraisers. She shares her talent of sewing by making pillows and quilts, which she donates to the Auxiliary for their fundraising projects, such as drawing and silent auctions. Hagerman’s motto is “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” According to Jean Morrow, director of volunteers at CMH, Hagerman’s motto comes to life through her heart of compassion and her willingness to help others in any way she can.
The Auxiliary raises money through different fundraisers and donates that money to CMH to purchase items such as new hospital beds, a new bus for the CMH transportation system, therapy equipment, electric doors for the hospital and any other needed items. The Auxiliary has members that serve in many capacities including: the hospital’s information desk; gift shop; physical therapy department; outpatient clinics; administration; medical records; laboratory, pharmacy, medical-surgical unit, and long term and residential care facilities.
“The Auxiliary is an intricate part of CMH and has been since the beginning.” said Donald J. Babb, chief executive officer/executive director of CMH. “Ruby Hagerman demonstrates the dedication that our system, facilities and individual employees always strive to achieve. She is a true example of a dedicated volunteer.”
