CMH Birth Place offers monthly Childbirth Classes

The Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) Birth Place is offering monthly childbirth classes, which includes a set of five evening classes for $35.  Individual classes can also be attended for an individual fee. All classes are taught in the CMH Community Rooms, 1500 N. Oakland, Bolivar, except for Infant CPR, which is taught in Educational Services, across the street from the hospital.

Childbirth, the Natural Way, is taught from 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.  It focuses on natural childbirth and teaches parents a variety of comfort techniques to help achieve a natural childbirth.  Individual class fee is $15, which also includes the class: Childbirth, the Big Picture. 

Childbirth, the Big Picture, is taught from 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.  The class helps prepare parents for the experience of childbirth by explaining what to expect during labor and delivery, including Cesarean deliveries, and anesthesia options, and includes a tour of The Birth Place.

Infant CPR is taught from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.  This class is taught according to the American Heart Association guidelines and provides information about performing CPR and clearing obstructed airways in infants.

Baby Basics is taught from 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.  This class teaches expectant parents basic baby-care skills, like bathing, diapering, temperature taking and caring for the umbilical cord.  This class also covers car-seat safety, home safety, choosing a pediatrician and other helpful tips, and includes a car-seat safety inspection and installation.  Individual class fee is $10.

Breast Feeding Basics taught from 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.  This class covers breast feeding basics, including how to know if a baby is getting enough, maintaining lactation when you are separated from the infant, how to use a breast pump, storing breast milk, and other topics.  Individual class fee is $10.
