CMH to host annual ‘Spread the Red’ luncheon and T-shirt sale

Events raise awareness for Heart Month

Citizens Memorial Healthcare (CMH) is “spreading the red”  to increase heart health awareness during American Heart Month in February.

“Nearly 2,300 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each day - one person every 38 seconds.  And on average, every 40 seconds someone in the United States has a stroke,” says Donald J. Babb, CEO/Executive Director of CMH.  “But, there is hope.  Cardiovascular disease and stroke are largely preventable through a healthy lifestyle.  American Heart Month is the perfect time to raise awareness, in our hospital and our community, about heart disease and how we can prevent it.”

Spread the Red Luncheon

The 3rd Annual Spread the Red Luncheon will be on Friday, Feb. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the CMH Community Rooms.  Dr. John F. Best, board certified cardiologist at CMH, will present “Strategy 2011: Combating Lipid Disorders” followed by Jody Pool, CMH Senior Health Center coordinator, who will share valuable exercise tips you can do at home or at the office. The luncheon is free of charge and includes a heart healthy meal, door prizes and information tables.

Spread the Red T-shirts

CMH is encouraging the community to “spread the red” on Friday, Feb. 4 by wearing a 2011 limited edition heart month T-shirt.  T-shirts are available for $10 at the CMH Administrative Center located on the square in Bolivar until Feb. 4.  CMH will contribute $5 from every sale to the American Heart Association.

Cardiac Care at CMH

The CMH Cath Lab has the latest technology for catheterization procedures.  Dr. Best and the cardiac care team perform hundreds of life-saving heart catheterization procedures a year.  Procedures include: angiography; coronary angioplasty and stenting; pacemaker implantation; echo cardiography; stress testing; and electrocardiogram (EKG).

Our nationally recognized cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs, designed to help heart and lung patients recover quickly from a heart-related surgery, a heart attack or diagnosis of heart or pulmonary disease, are certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). Our team of physicians, registered nurses (who are certified in advanced cardiac life support), registered respiratory therapists, occupational and physical therapists and dietitions work with you, your family and your physician to structure a lifestyle plan tailored to meet your specific needs.

The cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation program is in a state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility within the walls of the hospital, but is also easily accessible from outside. CMH offers stationary bicycles, treadmills, rowing machines, weight stations, stationary hand cycles and an indoor walking track.

To RSVP for the luncheon or to purchase a T-shirt, please call the CMH event hotline at 417-328-7247.
