Olivia Martin, LPN named June 2021 CMH Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses winner

Olivia Martin, a licensed practical nurse (LPN) with Citizens Memorial Hospital Pediatric Clinic in Bolivar, was named the June 2021 CMH DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses winner.

Martin earned her LPN degree in 2016 from Bolivar Technical College in Bolivar, and is enrolled in the registered nursing program at Cox College in Springfield. She began her career at CMH in 2016 in the medical/surgical unit and moved the following year to CMH Pediatric Clinic.

Martin was nominated for the DAISY Award by a co-worker for always going above and beyond caring for her patients and performing her duties at the clinic. The nomination listed all the extra roles Martin performs as well as being a nurse for two different providers when she is in the clinic.

The nomination read, “Olivia is an absolutely phenomenal nurse and I do not know what we would do without her at the pediatric clinic. She is a huge asset to the CMH system.”

When asked what it means to receive this award Martin said, “It means a lot... I was struggling for a long time because right now is a really hard time to work in nursing with everything going on, so it means a lot to be recognized. It’s a really good uplifting thing for me right now.”

Martin also gave credit to her coworkers who she considers more friends than just co-workers. “We have an awesome team, in the midst of all the hard stuff going on they are the reason we stay together as a team,” Martin said.

About the DAISY Award

DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP), an auto-immune disease.

The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Barnes, so they created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.

CMH implemented the DAISY Award program in January 2019 to recognize their own extraordinary nurses. Each month a CMH or Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation nurse will be presented with this recognition.
