CMH to celebrate National Nutrition Month® in March

Bolivar Mayor Chris Warwick signed an official proclamation announcing the month of March in Bolivar as Nutrition Month. “I encourage all citizens to join the campaign and to realize the effect healthy eating and nutritional practices have on their lives,” Mayor Warwick says.

According to CMH Clinical Dietitian Lynetta Smith, National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign that focuses on promoting the health and wellbeing of people of all ages through informed food choices and sound eating, and physical activity habits.

In celebration of National Nutrition Month®, CMH has planned activities for CMH employees and the community.

  • Try the Dietitian’s Specials at CMH Deli and DJBean. Located in the Douglas Medical Center, the CMH Deli is open Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. and offers breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks. The DJBean Coffee Bar, also located in the Douglas Medical Center, is open Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and offers coffee, tea, smoothies, specialty coffee drinks and snacks. The Douglas Medical Center is located at 1155 W. Parkview St., Bolivar.
  • Like and follow CMH’s Facebook page (@CitizensMemorial) for a chance to win a gift card to CMH Deli or DJBean Coffee Bar by answering nutrition-related questions.
  • Attend a CMH Healthy Balance cooking class. Go to http://bit.ly/2geAvqY for more information and to register for upcoming classes.
  • Stop by the CMH Cafeteria March 4-8 to learn more about nutrition topics at the resource table.
  • Watch the Facebook Live event on Wednesday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m. as CMH Dietitians demonstrate how to prepare a healthy meal and have a chance to win a CMH Deli gift card from CMH Nutritional Services.

“CMH provides nutrition education and support to the community as well as providing one-on-one and group medical nutrition therapy visits with a registered dietitian nutritionist for diabetes and other health conditions,” Smith says. “CMH Dietitians use their nutrition expertise to help individuals make personalized, positive lifestyle changes.”

Smith recommends that patients contact their medical providers for a physician’s referral for group and individual sessions with a CMH Dietitian.
