Michael Calhoun, CEO/Chief Executive Officer

Michael Calhoun is the chief executive officer/executive director of Citizens Memorial Hospital and the Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation. He is the third individual to hold the position since the hospital opened in 1982.

Calhoun assumed the role on Jan. 1, 2022, and previously worked at CMH for more than 22 years. He held various positions in hospital and clinic administration, home medical equipment, materials management, information services, finance and pharmacy. He was the director of clinics for 12 years and the chief operating officer for CMH beginning January 2020.

Calhoun received a bachelor’s degree and an MBA with a concentration in health care administration from Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar.

A native of Halfway, Missouri, Calhoun has been a part of the Bolivar community for more than 20 years. He served on the Bolivar Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors for three years and was president in 2015. He is an active member of the Missouri Association of Rural Health Clinics, serving as president from 2017-2019. He is a National Association of Rural Health Clinics board member. He was a board of examiners member for the 2015 Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award. He is also a bi-vocational pastor of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Bolivar since 2007.

During his first two years in this role, he oversaw planning for a $100 million hospital expansion and remodel. Construction will begin in 2024 on the facility that will create an all-new patient experience at CMH.

Calhoun and his wife, Karaley, have three children: Lincoln, Mikaylen and Emeral Mae. They live on a 160-acre cattle farm north of Bolivar near Polk, Missouri.
