Local seniors compete in 25th Golden Age Games

Residents of Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation’s long-term and residential care facilities competed in the 25th Golden Age Games Friday, Oct. 17, on the campus of Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar.

Participating CMH facilities included Ash Grove Healthcare Facility (AGHCF), Butterfield Residential Care Center (BRCC), Citizens Memorial Healthcare Facility (CMHCF), Colonial Springs Healthcare Center (CSHCC), Community Springs Healthcare Facility (CSHCF), Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility (LSHCF) and Parkview Health Care Facility (PVHCF).

The Golden Age Games give seniors living in long-term care facilities a chance to enjoy fun activities and socialize with peers from southwest Missouri. Contests included hog calling, cow milking, horseshoes, basketball toss, soccer kick, bingo, quiz bowl and wheelchair races. Residents also completed in craft contests, including embroidery, yarn, woodworking and group projects.

Awards

Each facility and its residents had the opportunity to win first through fifth place in each competition. Highlights included:

  • AGHCF: First in painting; second in jewelry crafts; third in hog calling and wheelchair race; and fifth in bingo, soccer kick and wheelchair race.
  • BRCC: First in horseshoes, soccer kick and basketball toss; third in cow milking, basketball toss, group craft and other crafts; and fifth in painting.
  • CMHCF: First in bingo, hog calling and wheelchair race; second in bingo, basketball toss and group craft; third in painting and yarn work; fourth in cow milking and basketball toss; and fifth in cow milking.
  • CSHCC: First in quiz bowl; fourth in bingo, hog calling, wheelchair race and painting; and fifth in woodworking.
  • CSHCF: First in handiwork; second in other crafts; third in horseshoes and soccer kick; fourth in group craft and horseshoes; and fifth in quiz bowl. CSHCF also had the oldest participant in the games.
  • LSHCF: First in cow milking; second in cow milking, soccer kick and woodworking; third in woodworking and quiz bowl; fourth in woodworking and quiz bowl; and fifth in group craft and other crafts.
  • PVHCF: First in woodworking, jewelry crafts, group craft and embroidery; second in hog calling, painting and yarn work; third in bingo; and fifth in horseshoes.

The highest team score went to CMHCF, followed by PVHCF and LSHCF. The spirit award was presented to PVHCF, with CSHCF second and AGHCF third.
