CMH and Burrell collaborate to improve mental health care

Citizens Memorial Hospital and Burrell Inc. have established a mutual referral relationship to improve mental health care across the communities they serve.

Burrell is a community mental health center providing behavioral health services in 18 Missouri counties. Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) is a rural health care system serving eight counties in southwest Missouri. Dallas, Polk and northern Greene counties are within the service areas of both organizations.

Through this relationship, CMH and Burrell will work collaboratively to expand services for autism, group therapy and education. The two organizations will also explore opportunities to reduce barriers and increase access to behavioral health services in local communities.

“At CMH, we are committed to improving access to mental health services in our community,” said Michael Calhoun, CEO/executive director of CMH and the Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation. “Collaborating with Burrell allows us to connect more people with the right resources and provide support when it matters most. Our shared goal is to improve health and well-being for all.”

"Whether you live in an urban or rural setting in southwest Missouri, you and your loved ones deserve access to quality behavioral health care,” said Clay Goddard, Burrell Southwest Regional president. “We are honored to partner with Citizens Memorial Hospital, a trusted health care provider in the communities we collectively serve. Together, we will help connect people in need with transformative care."

Staff from both organizations meet regularly to combine their expertise and develop coordinated strategies to provide integrated community behavioral health care.
