CMH offers contest for patient portal use
Have you had a visit with a Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) physician or nurse practitioner since Jan. 1, 2014? If so, you are eligible to be entered into a drawing for some fantastic prizes – a vacation worth $2,500, a 48”TV, a 16 GB iPad, or $500 cash.
Patients need to log on to their CMH patient portal “MyChart” account and send a message to their physician or nurse practitioner. To be entered in the drawing patients must do the following: 1. Have been seen by a CMH provider between Jan. 1, 2014 and March 31, 2014; and 2. Send a secure message to their provider through the “MyChart” patient portal between Jan. 1, 2014 and March 31, 2014 (patient has to click “messages,” not “contact us”).
“We believe engaging patients in their own care through tools like MyChart provides a benefit to the patient and to their CMH care team. These prizes are just a way to break the ice. I think a lot of people are reluctant to send a secure message to their physician or nurse practitioner. It could seem like an imposition on their time, but, it isn’t. The CMH care team wants to hear from patients,” says Denni McColm, chief information officer at CMH. “We want to know how you are doing. We want to make sure you understand your provider’s recommendations. MyChart allows us to all be on the same team working to help you achieve the best health outcomes possible.”
McColm has a personal experience with MyChart. “I was recently in Memphis on vacation when my cold evolved into a very bad sinus infection. I was able to send a secure message to my physician, he was able to send a prescription to a Memphis pharmacy and I started getting relief so my vacation wasn’t completely ruined,” McColm remarks. “Not every situation can be resolved through secure messaging, but I’m very happy this one was!”
Each patient who has sent a secure message will be entered into the drawing one time. If the portal user sends a secure message on behalf of his/her dependent child or someone else they have proxy access to, that message counts.
“We believe that engaging the patient in their own care through tools like our new MyChart Patient Portal provides benefit to both the patient and his/her clinic care team,” says Karrie Ingram, project manager at CMH. “Sending a secure message through MyChart is often responded to more quickly than a phone call, it is more efficient for both the patient and the clinic staff and provider. It is a great way to report blood pressures, blood sugars, or let the provider know how you are doing after a doctor visit.”
MyChart provides patients and their families with access to health information online at any time and from almost anywhere. In addition to securely messaging your physician or nurse practitioner, patients can: 1. View and Request Appointments; 2. Request Prescription Renewals; 3. See Your Visit History; 4. Review Your Results; 5. Access Visit Summaries; 6. Update Personal Information; and 7. View Your Bills Online.
