Physical Capacity Profile

Developed by an orthopedic physician, the Physical Capacity Profile is a comprehensive testing procedure that documents the test subject's physical skills and the American Medical Association (AMA) related impairments. Through the use of strength and endurance testing, a database determines the level of work the employee is capable or performing. The testing system is also designed to accommodate individuals with handicaps. Rapid delivery of test results allows management to quickly place new employees. The test is also objective and uses multiple tests to avoid human error.

Why use the Physical Capacity Profile?

When employees are physically matched to their jobs, they are substantially less likely to become injured. This system is one of the most comprehensive testing devices on the market today. Unlike most post-hire physicals, the physical capacity profile documents musculoskeletal imbalances. With this documentation employers are able to ensure that the employees have the physical capacity to perform the job. Due to the extensive medical histories taken, employers will not have to pay workman's compensation on existing injuries, because they are recorded at the time of hire.

What Does the Physical Capacity Profile Include?

  • comprehensive medical review
  • upper extremity strength
  • trunk strength
  • active lumbar range of motion
  • maximum lifting capacity
  • fitness
  • lower extremity strength
  • spiromety (lung capacity)
  • lower extremity mobility
  • safe lifting techniques

How Do I Get Started?

Trained personnel from the CMH Sports Medicine Center will visit with you on-site and assist you in developing your job descriptions and Department of Labor strength level classifications. This information is vital to the process because the desired strength level of the job he/she is applying for is compared to the results from the employee's Physical Capacity Profile.

Cost Justification

By reducing the risk of injury, the number of workman's compensation claims and related premiums are also reduced. Cost conscious management knows that fewer lost workdays due to workman's compensation claims will result in increased productivity and profits. Studies have shown that companies that incorporate the Physical Capacity Profile have decreased medical costs of sprains & strains, workman's compensation premiums and lost time in days/years.

Legally Defensible

This system is a validated process that is in compliance with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities), EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission), and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act) and has successfully undergone audits. This system reveals preexisting disabilities and ensures that only recent injuries are paid through workman's compensation.
