CMH to partner with Bolivar Technical College to build new $5.3 million facility
Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation (CMH) is addressing the regional nursing shortage by partnering with Bolivar Technical College (BTC) to build a new $5.3 million education services facility on the CMH campus.
BTC currently operates in a 9,000 sq. ft facility in Bolivar and has reached maximum building capacity. The school offers training programs for registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nurse assistants, medical administrative assistant, medical assistants, and medical laboratory technologists.
The new 28,281 sq. ft facility will allow the college to expand classes and offer enrollment in the nursing program every fall semester rather than every other year, as current space allows. BTC has requested approval from the Missouri State Board of Nursing to start an additional group of RN students. BTC anticipates a response by late February. Graduating registered nurses every year will address the regional nursing shortage.
“The real benefit to partnering with Bolivar Technical College is the ability to educate more of the local residents,” says Donald J. Babb, Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director of CMH. “The economic development impact of training local residents is significant. The majority of the college graduates become employed at CMH. We still need more nurses and other healthcare providers.”
In addition to housing BTC, the new facility will also include the CMH Education Department, and two community rooms.
“Our current nursing classes are full to capacity and people are on a waiting list. With a larger facility, we will be able to serve more students,” says Charlotte Gray, President of BTC. “CMH has been supportive of our education programs by allowing our students to do their clinical rotations there, providing scholarship opportunities, and hiring our graduates. We are extremely grateful for the relationship with CMH.”
Construction on the project is set to begin in summer 2014. For more information about the education services facility, contact the CMH Marketing Department at 417-328-7245.
