Men’s Health Day to be held June 18 at Citizens Memorial Hospital
Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) and the Carrie J. Babb Cancer Center at CMH (CJBCC) encourage men to be active in their health by hosting a free men’s health day on Tuesday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the CMH Community Rooms located at the hospital, 1500 N. Oakland, Bolivar.
“June is National Men’s Health Month,” says Donald J. Babb, Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director of CMH. “According to the Centers of Disease Control (CDC), women are 100 percent more likely to visit the doctor for an annual examination and preventative services than men. Men’s Health Day is an opportunity for us to raise awareness of preventable health problems and educate and encourage men of all ages to be active and participate in their health.”
CMH will offer free prostate-specific antigen testing (PSA) testing for men 40 and older. The PSA screening test is a tool physician’s use to monitor elevated levels of PSA in the blood. The PSA test is a blood sample and does not require fasting. Other screenings and wellness information available at the event will include: free skin cancer screenings by James Swann, D.O., in practice at CMH Dermatology Clinic; the American Cancer Society Colon Cancer exhibit; colorectal screening kits; hearing; blood pressure; advanced healthcare directives; nutrition; CMH Rehabilitation Services; CMH Men’s Prostate Support Group; sleeping disorders and much more. The event includes a grilled lunch and door prizes for both men and ladies.
