Anne Winkler, M.D., Ph.D., selected to participate in nationwide rheumatoid arthritis project
Citizens Memorial Hospital Rheumatologist Anne Winkler, M.D., Ph.D., was selected as one of 50 to participate in a nationwide rheumatoid arthritis (RA) assessment group called the Rheumatoid Arthritis Performance Project (RAPP).
This project is designed to look at RA patients in the community setting and gauge how well they are being managed as a population. Utilizing a newer RA assessment tool called VECTRA DA, the RAPP group can determine if their practice is better or worse than the national average in terms of disease control. Additionally, the RAPP group will look at a variety of RA disease assessment tools as well as the risk of complications associated with RA. The RAPP group will be assessing what drugs will decrease those complications. This project should include more than 30,000 RA patients and it will be the first population assessment of RA in patients with and without other conditions such as fibromyalgia and lumbar disc disease.
Dr. Winkler attended medical school and completed an internal medicine residency and fellowship at the University of Missouri in Columbia. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.
