Activities at Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility

No matter where we live, being active is an important part of a healthy life. At Lake Stockton Healthcare and Assisted Living Facility, we encourage residents to participate in a wide variety of activities and events.

Perhaps the most important aspect of a successful activity program is the respect of each resident's individual preferences. Some residents will attend every scheduled activity or event, while others truly enjoy more private activities in their room. It's important for our staff to respect those preferences, but to carefully recognize when a resident is becoming withdrawn or reclusive for unhealthy reasons.

In addition to regularly scheduled activities like bingo, exercises, trivia and seasonal parties, our home is blessed with many wonderful volunteers who provide our residents with so many great events. Our activity calendar is full of special events like birthday parties, barbecues, a county fair (complete with dunk tank!), van rides to see the beautiful spring and fall foliage, and trips to the local fishing' holes. We also receive many visits from our local school children who provide that special touch for musical or drama presentations. We've even coaxed our Tigers basketball team to come sing carols for us at Christmas!

Our local churches are very good to provide services for the residents on a weekly basis. The Agape Boys Ranch is here every week on Sunday to minister in song and share their uplifting message. Other churches come on Wednesdays, offering our residents a diversity of worship opportunities. Some residents attend their church of choice in the community.

Two very special weeks of the year include National Nursing Home Week in May and our community's Black Walnut Festival in September. National Nursing Home week is a celebration full of special guests and entertainment for our residents. The staff and residents enjoy lots of food and fun, centered around a theme that usually involves some friendly competition.

The Walnut Festival offers our residents the chance to reconnect with family and friends who make the annual pilgrimage back to Stockton for the four day event. The residents truly enjoy being at our booth in the park, competing in the many food contests, and cheering for our float in the parade.
