CMH named a 'Most Wired Hospital'

Citizens Memorial Healthcare (CMH) was named to the nation's 100 "Most Wired" hospitals and health systems for the third time.  The 2010 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study, in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, recognizes hospitals that use information technology to better serve and treat patients and to better run business processes. CMH was previously named as a Most Wired Hospital in the Small and Rural Hospital category for three years.

"This the sixth year that CMH has been named to the Most Wired list," says Denni McColm, chief information officer for CMH. "Every year the requirements are more and more advanced and we've worked hard to stay ahead of the curve at CMH. Within the past year, we've implemented ePrescribing and connected to the GoogleHealth personal health record so that patients can have access to their own health information. We will continue to push forward in our use of information technology for the benefit of our patients and community."

CMH is one of three hospitals in Missouri to be named to the 100 Most Wired list. The other health systems are located in Kansas City and Sedalia.

The 100 Most Wired hospitals show better outcomes in patient satisfaction, risk-adjusted mortality rates and other key quality measures through the use of information technology (IT), according to a new analysis.  Marking its 12th year, the Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study continues to lead the field in analyses and benchmarking of healthcare IT.

The Most Wired Survey is conducted annually by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, the journal of the American Hospital Association, which uses the results to name the 100 Most Wired hospitals and health systems. It focuses on how the nation's hospitals use information technologies for quality, customer service, public health and safety, business processes and workforce issues.

Hospitals & Health Networks conducted the 2010 survey in cooperation with the American Hospital Association, McKesson Corp. and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. The July H&HN cover story detailing results is available at www.hhnmag.com.

In addition to being named to the Most Wired list, CMH also received the Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence in 2006, a national award that recognizes the implementation of a single patient-centric electronic medical record that covers all services of care. CMH was the first rural health system and the first non-academic medical center to receive the award.
