Area residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for the health expo at Dallas County Family Medical Center (DCFMC) sponsored by Citizens Memorial Healthcare. The Feb. 6 health expo will be held from 7 - 10 a.m. The clinic is located at 201 S. Ash, Buffalo.
CMH has expanded its selection of blood screenings offered at health expos. A complete blood chemistry profile, which checks more than 20 different tests including cholesterol, blood sugar, iron and electrolytes, is available for $20. Men may receive a Prostate Cancer (PSA) test for $30. A Thyroid Profile (TSH) test is available for $30, a Complete Blood Count (CBC) test for $15, Protime (Pt) and INR test for $20, Hemoglobin AIC test is available for $20 and Lipid panel for $25. Results are mailed in approximately 10 working days.
CMH encourages people to participate in the health expo to improve overall health, prevent disease and detect health problems early. In addition to the screenings, the health expo provides opportunities for people to obtain health education materials and learn about the prevention of diseases including cancer, heart disease and stroke, diabetes and chronic lung disease.
The results from the blood chemistry profile are more accurate if participants refrain from eating or drinking (except water, black coffee or tea) for eight to 14 hours prior to testing and refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages three days prior.
The PSA screening does not require fasting, which is not recommended for known diabetics or hypoglycemics. Participants need to take their medication as directed because their medications will not alter their tests. The tests are screenings only and are not intended to replace regular checkups with a physician or nurse practitioner.
