Heart disease continues to plague the nation and our service area. It kills more people than any other illness. By bringing strong cardiology services to our hospital, Citizens Memorial Healthcare will be able to meet its mission of providing services to all local residents and will maintain its strong position as a regional healthcare provider.

Our team is available to see patients with a cardiac history, chest pain, cardiomyopathy and other cardiac-related issues. We have recruited one of the area's finest board-certified cardiologists and have purchased the latest high-tech equipment for our new cardiac catheterization lab.

In addition, CMH works with a board-certified vascular surgeon, J. Randolph Mullins, M.D., who utilizes the cath lab to perform peripheral catheterization procedures.

Our center has the latest technology for catheterization procedures—it uses 70 percent less radiation than most cath labs, which enables our patients to recover as quickly as possible—so you can rest assured you are getting the best treatment available. And our experience—our cardiologists perform hundreds of state-of-the-art heart catheterization procedures a year—speaks for itself.

Our nationally recognized cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs, designed to help heart and lung patients recover quickly from a heart-related surgery, a heart attack or diagnosis of heart or pulmonary disease, are certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). Our team of physicians, registered nurses (who are certified in advanced cardiac life support), registered respiratory therapists, occupational and physical therapists and dieticians work with you, your family and your physician to structure a lifestyle plan tailored to meet your specific needs. Most plans include a program of supervised exercise training, nutritional counseling to lower dietary fat and cholesterol levels, stress management and relaxation training, modification of coronary risk factors and careful monitoring of your cardiac health. Your designated team will teach you about your disease; how to change your lifestyle through diet, exercise and stress management; assist you with your exercise program; monitor your progress; help you with your emotional well-being and be available to answer any questions or concerns you might have.

Most patients can return to their usual activities within a few months of a heart attack or heart or lung surgery. Through participation in our cardiac rehabilitation program, you will begin to regain control and make healthier lifestyle choices.

The cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation program is in a state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility within the walls of the hospital, but is also easily accessible from outside. Our recent expansion has enabled us to improve our facility by adding stationary bicycles, treadmills, rowing machines, weight stations, stationary hand cycles and an indoor walking track.
