Meet Dr. Chetan Soni
What a busy summer CMH has experienced! Dr. Chetan Soni joined the medical staff in July and has started seeing patients at the Eye Specialty Center’s new location in the Kerry and Synda Douglas Medical Office Building, located in Bolivar at 1155 W. Parkview St., Suite 1B. Dr. Soni sat down with the CMH marketing staff to answer a few questions about ophthalmology, among other things. Meet Dr. Soni, below:
- What is an ophthalmologist?
Dr. Soni: “Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who are trained in the identification, management and surgical removal of diseases of the eye. Many people often think of cataracts, when they think of an ophthalmologist.”
- Why would someone see an ophthalmologist?
Dr. Soni: “Patients come to me for various medical conditions because they have difficulty seeing, they continually bump into things, have droopy eyelids or have diabetes.”
- What would you say to someone who’s not had their eyes checked in 5 years?
Dr. Soni: “It depends upon their age and health status. Someone young and healthy is probably okay. Anyone 40 years of age and older should have their eyes checked once a year, especially those living with any of the previously described medical conditions. Finally, anyone with diabetes should have their eyes checked at least once a year, possibly every six months.”
- What are you most excited about, in terms of being a CMH physician?
Dr. Soni: “The new CMH Eye Specialty location. I am directly across the hall from the surgery center, which is convenient for my patients.”
- Do you have a favorite sports team that you follow, or a favorite type of food?
Dr. Soni: “Mizzou.”
